Friends path:
We find someone who loves the same things as your child (games, crafts, science experiments, etc.) who can hang out on a regular basis and just spend time together
Mentors path:
We find a mentor in the community who shares that passion (if your child is interested in more than one thing, we can find mentors in each area)
Friends path:
We send an activity kit for every visit with your friend to create, do, or experience something that brings joy to your child
Mentors path:
You’ll get to hang out with your mentor regularly and learn more about the profession through conversations and passion project activity kits
Within the next work day, we will reach out to you to set up a video call with you and your child. We begin by sharing more about the program and answer any questions you and your child have. If you and your child are interested in participating, we dive into what they’re passionate and immediately begin the search for a local mentor! The mentor search typically takes four weeks. We will keep you posted throughout our search.
All mentors undergo a rigorous eligibility process including an application, interview, and state required background checks.
A Connecting Champions employee is on every single video meeting with the the child and their mentor. We ask that a parent or guardian is on the call as well, or at least in the same room.
Although the mentor experience is specifically for the child, siblings may be able to join.
It does not matter what stage the child is in during the cancer journey. Whether they were just diagnosed or are 10 years out of treatment, we are here and ready to find a mentor! We serve ages 3-26.

On average, our mentees and mentors meet 1 to 3 times per month. The frequency is based on our mentees’ needs and mentors’ availability. Meetings generally last 30 to 60 minutes.
That’s no problem – if you ever change your mind about a particular interest, or want to learn something new, just let us know! We are here to make this experience the best possible.Â
